ARE YOU RIGHT FOR A BEARDIE? - IS A BEARDIE RIGHT FOR YOU?

Please consider the following before you decide that you want a Bearded Collie

• A Beardie thrives on human company and as such, he needs to be an integral part of your family. He is NOT an outside dog, and he is NOT a guard dog, although he may be protective of his people, his territory and his car!

• Are you prepared for, and willing to take on a breed that is a grooming commitment? His gorgeous coat defines who he is, and protects him from the sand and rain. At least one hour a week is required to keep his coat in good condition and matt free.

• A Beardie requires a kind, gentle and firm owner who defines boundaries and is consistent with them. Harsh training methods do not work for the breed; they are very sensitive to reproach (they are inappropriate for any breed!)

• Can you happily deal with muddy feet on you, and in your house?

• Are you prepared to take your Beardie for basic obedience training? This highly intelligent breed needs stimulation; this includes regular walks and playtime.
